This year I celebrated my birthday a month later. I decided to take my birthday trip over the long Labor Day weekend versus crunching it in to a measly 3 day time frame. Still in the limited PTO struggle, I had to find a destination less than 6 hours away. Initially I booked a hotel on my actual birthday weekend to Panama but the flights were ridiculous (a 10 hour layover on my return was out of the question). My 3 options were Costa Rica, Belize and Panama. Costa Rica was not feasible for this trip because I’d need at least 10 days to see the country so this narrowed my choices a bit.

This past January I was determined to escape the Arctic temperatures even if it meant using my limited vacay days for quick getaway. People with 10 vacays know the PTO struggle. It was also the BFF’s birthday, which further prompted my desire the get out of dodge. I typically don’t like spending my birthday at home, so I usually push my close friends to do an out of state/ international getaway . With only 4 short days to play, our flight needed to be 3-5 hours away which limited our destination to the Caribbean, Central America or Mexico. We decided on Mexico to check off one of the World’s Wonders on our bucketlist.
About a week ago I went to NOLA, and as I sit here and reflect I wish I would’ve gone sooner. For this milestone birthday I wanted to get out of town and experience the best that Southern/Creole/Cajun culture has to offer. New Orleans have always been on travel list mainly because of its food, Mardi Gras and haunted sites.
The World Cup is coming to an end in a few days and I won’t know what to do with myself when it’s over. Sure the Premiership starts soon but nothing can really replace that level of excitement. I’ve been watching the World Cup since 1998 and even though I did not shed a tear by far this has been the most exciting tournament.
